Water Landing Preparation
Essential steps for ditching procedures
Do This Now
10 seconds- Locate and put on life vest - DO NOT inflate inside
- Life vest is under your seat or in seat pocket
- Tighten seatbelt firmly across hips
- Remove high heels and sharp jewelry
Next 60 Seconds
1 minute- Review life vest inflation procedure
- Locate nearest overwing or regular exit
- Note that overwing exits lead to wing for water landings
- Stay calm and listen to crew briefing
- Help children and elderly with their life vests
If Landing is Imminent
Pre-landing- Assume brace position when instructed
- Keep life vest ON but NOT inflated
- Be prepared for impact
- Remember: inflate life vest only at exit door
After Stop/Landing
Post-landing- Wait for crew to open doors
- Inflate life vest at exit door only
- Jump into water feet first
- Swim away from aircraft
- Locate life rafts and help others if safe
